There was some fear the harvest would be sub-optimal due to poor weather conditions and abundant rainfall. However, the weather leading into harvest was sunny and dry, which led to perfectly ripe grapes and promises to be a very good vintage.
Despite the numerous hail damage recorded throughout Piedmont, the Botolo vineyards did not get any hail.
The white grapes, particularly Chardonnay, are very promising and the winery’s enologist confirms it will be the best harvest in the last 3 years. The red grapes show an excellent acidity, and the alcohol level, always remarkable, is slightly lower than the previous 2 years. Nizza should show an alcohol content of about 15% versus 15.5% last year and Barbera around 14%, compared to 14.5% in 2018.
Despite the lower crop, a good year of wine is still expected.
We are looking forward to the new release of Brachetto d’Acqui, which will be bottled at the beginning of November, and which should confirm our great expectations for the 2019 grape harvest.
