2019 Vintage – five star rating for Barbera d’Asti DOCG.
This is the conclusion reached by 150 wine tasters gathered by Coldiretti last December at the San Secondo Cultural Center for the annual preview dedicated to “Barbera d’Asti docg”, now in its 18th edition.
“It was a very exciting experience” – said world renowned wine expert Riccardo Cotarella, President of Assoenologi, to be able to taste 21 different samples of Barbera d’Asti wines. “The wines were all very interesting” – Cotarella pointed out – “I was not surprised in the sense that I am very familiar with the characteristics of Barbera, a generous grape, both in terms of versatility and quality. Barbera is an excellent grape variety that can be used to produce a fresh drinkable wine, and even a rosé, a wine that can undergo medium refinement or long aging. It is a very generous wine, therefore, as is the soil and land from which it comes, and as are the producers who work with a passion that I would call unique.”
We at il Botolo confirm that we had an excellent Barbera harvest in 2019, and that from the first tastings we have conducted so far in our winery, 2019 has the makings of an extraordinary vintage. Our enthusiasm is based on several factors, all working in our favor: the terroir, ideal climate conditions, diligent and eco-sustainable practice in the vineyards, harvesting at the best time and a consolidated wine making practice that will give a great Barbera d’Asti Docg, Barbera d’Asti Docg Superiore and Nizza Docg.
